Drug & Alcohol Counseling

Cassidy Booms was living in Michigan when she found herself moving to Delaware when her husband got orders to Dover Air Force Base in 2017. Once in the First State, the quality of the human services program is what led to her decision to enroll in Delaware Tech.

The pursuit of a career in human services, however, was not always her plan.

Her background was in the medical field. She always enjoyed helping people while working in these careers, and the experiences she garnered through these positions ultimately pulled her interests towards the mental health field. It soon became her passion to advocate for those who could not always advocate for themselves. This realization made her switch her career and pursue a human services degree.

The quality of the teachers and the quality of the classes at Del Tech is what she feels makes the human services program stand apart from others.

"The human services program at Delaware Tech is one of the best programs in Delaware that you can go into," Booms said. "The internships that are built into the program give you the best outlook in the field."

The program's distinction is made apparent when discussed with her peers.

"When I tell people about the things I was able to experience in my classes at Delaware Tech, they are shocked. A lot of them weren’t able to get those kinds of experiences until their bachelor's or even master's programs. And here I was getting these types of hands-on experiences in an associate program," she said.

Now, living in Fairbanks, Alaska, Booms is furthering her education as a student of Central Michigan University – Global Campus where she is working on her bachelor's in psychology. Her goals include obtaining her master's to become a behavior analyst and, one day, she hopes to work for the military in order to help service members who suffer from PTSD.
